Chickens and Salvation...

...I know that is a really weird title but it is related. On Saturday morning Arlen and I finished butchering the last of the chickens for the year. We butchered 43 chickens this year and its great to have a freezer full of very tasty organic chicken. Theya was really intrigued by the whole process and wanted to know what each body part was and its function.

Raising this chicken was such a good experience because I think it is so important for us to know where our food comes from and the work it takes to get the food on the table. And it is so much more of a reality for me that it is God alone who provides our food.

With only two of us processing the chicken it takes a bit of time especially with a million interruptions from the kids but we finally got it done! After the boys were down for a nap we finished the last few. I was in the house cutting up the last chicken and getting it packaged for the freezer when Arlen came to the window saying that Theya wanted to pray (in her words), "so that Jesus would save me from my sins and come live in my heart." I finished up as quick as I could and came out to garden where they were working.

Then we all knelt down and Arlen led Theya through a prayer of salvation. After we were finished praying Theya starting hugging me and saying how much she loved me and it was one of the most precious moments ever. Thank you God for the gift of wonderful food and most of all your precious Son!
