We crossed the border without any obstacles. Then Arlen and his Dad dropped his Mom, the kids and I off at the airport. Arlen then started the 12 hour drive to his parents house with all our worldly belongings in the trailer and his Dad drove their motor home. Winter officially started that day so, they had snowy, icy roads to deal with. Arlen eventually made it to his parents house around 1 am. His Dad didn't dare drive over the pass so he stayed the night in a gas station parking lot and continued the drive the next morning.
Meanwhile, we had a long wait at the airport but the kids did really well and kept busy with books, crayons and new trains that Grandma brought along.

The kids absolutely loved the plane ride. It was the boys first time to be on a plane and Theya's third time. Kalen sat by Grandma with his 'blankie'.

Gannon and Theya sat by Mom.

Gannon had fun watching cartoons with 'Lion' and was so tired. He fell asleep a little after this picture was taken.

Theya loved watching cartoons and being served cookies and juice. What more could a kid ask for? During take-off she started squealing she was so excited.

The lady next to Kalen fell asleep and he leaned over and poked her. She woke up but at least she thought he was cute and funny and didn't get mad. Silly boy!

After landing in Calgary, Arlen's sister-in-law, Melanie picked us up and we drove 45 minutes north to Arlen's parents house. When we landed it was so cold and snowing. The roads were a mess and it was a big shock. At first I was thinking, 'Oh my, what have we done!' I was not excited about the weather at all. That was one of the main reasons we left Alberta 6 years previous and moved to Lynden.
Arlen then arrived about 1 am and we slept at his parents. The next morning we started the 3 1/2 hour drive north to our new house. It was about -35 degrees and blowing snow. I few times during the drive I could not see because of white out conditions. After we arrived about 8 people from a local church showed up to help us unload our trailer. They were prepared for the cold weather and dressed appropriately. With all the help it only took 1 hour and 20 minutes to unload the trailer.

The people have been so welcoming and have brought so much yummy food and warm clothes over. The day after we arrived we were invited to dinner at a 'neighbors house' about 8 miles away. They are a very sweet, homeschooling family with six young children and I'm excited to get to know them better. We had a lot in common and they even sent us home with homemade yogurt and told us where we could locally buy whole grains for grinding and baking bread. On the drive home from their house we saw three timber wolves. They were huge and a sight to see!
The kids stayed at Arlen's parents house for a few days to give us a chance to get the house some what organized before they arrived. As you can see we had a big mess on our hands.

Help, I'm buried in boxes!

The kitchen is three times the size our our old one with an 8 foot island and has been so nice for cooking and baking.

The kids have arrived and are checking out the new house.

Cuddle time!

Playing with unpacked boxes.

Where's Kalen?

We have deer in our yard everyday. We also have moose tracks all over in the yard but we have yet to see them. One day the kids and I watched a coyote in our front yard for 20 minutes as he was pouncing on mouse holes in the snow trying to find some food. It definitely lives up to its name of 'Wild Alberta' up here.
We live three miles out of Busby, a town of 150 people and only get our mail twice a week. It's different then Lynden, that's for sure but it sure is beautiful and our idea of living in the 'country'.

WOW, thank you for all the time you took to update us *city* folk, lol! I no longer feel so country anymore after that post ;) The pictures were so fun to see and glad to hear you are settling with the help from a church family. If you have nothing but a good church family, you have everything. Anxiously, patiently (?) waiting for more posts {{{hugs}}}
So good to hear how your move went & how you're settling in! I too & glad you have a church family who stepped up to help you feel at home. Hoping maybe we can see you sometime, now that we're a little closer:)
