Thursdays with Kristy

Sorry, I was going to try and be more consistent at this blogging thing. After I wrote that last post I got sick for two weeks and then my seasonal allergies started getting really bad. Arlen also lost his job and we've been really busy on the farm.

This is what we've been up to lately.....

  • The playroom ceiling and walls are all primed and painted!!! Next the floors go in, I can't wait.

  • The kids have a new, bigger sand box.

  • The entire back yard is fenced!!!! If you have two toddlers you can relate with me on how exciting this is and so, so much safer.

  • We now have two rabbits, a buck named Topaz and a doe named Ruby. They are New Zealand Whites and we are raising them for meat. We won't be eating them but their offspring. We'll let you know how it tastes. From everyone that I've talked to they like it better than chicken.

  • We added two more goats to the farm. A Saanen doe named Huckleberry. She is two and this is her first freshening. It's so, so good to have goat milk back. Oh, how we've missed it these last few months. We also have a buckling named Harold. He's only two weeks old and so cute. He has very good bloodlines and should produce some good milkers for us over the years.

  • Our other Saanen doe, Sage is about to have her kids any day. She's as big as a house and I suspect she's having triplets. Two of our Boar goats are also pregnant and due May 4 and 5th.

  • My cream separator, cheese press and butter churn have arrived! I'm really looking forward to being dairy independent.

  • The peas, oats and barley are all growing well and up several inches already.

  • We have 216 tomatoes, peppers, onions, leeks and to many culinary and medicinal herbs to name started in the house under a grow light.

  • We're getting 50 broiler chicks on April 21st, yum organic chicken. I'm looking forward to learning how to butcher in July sometime.
  • We switched the boys from cribs to toddler beds last week. They are getting so big. And Gannon has gone potty on the toilet several times. I bought him underwear but he doesn't want to wear them yet.
I guess now you can see why I don't have much time to blog.

I'm thankful for.....all our animals and space to grow food.

I'm listening to.....Arlen building a fenced in area to house the wood and garbage by the house to the boys can't get into it.

What's for dinner tonight.....Cottage Pie.

What I'm looking forward to.....having the playroom finished.

What's happening this week.....Holly is having surgery on the 7th. They are drilling this time to remove the mass. Please continue to pray for her because this will be a long recovery.

I'm missing.....Arlen having a job. We have been preparing for this. The country's construction unemployment rate is 27.5%, the highest it's ever been. If anyone hears of a good job for Arlen either here or across the border let us know.

The boys getting ready to sleep in their new beds.

This is how we found them when we checked on them before we went to bed. They are both cuddled up sound asleep in Kalen's bed.

Hey Kristi -- Melissa Langstraat here. I was looking at your blog to get an update on Holly (praise the Lord it sounds like it went well!) and saw that your husband is out of work. Just thought I'd throw it out there that my husband's employer, Hytech Roofing, is hiring. It is a great company to work for and the owners are Christians and wonderful. I'm not sure what positions, type of work are available, but it's something. I'll have to check your blog more frequently to see pics of your cute kids!
