I know I'm a day late but better late then never. And sorry, it's been I week since my last post, what can I say, a lot has been going on around here. The boys and I are also fighting a cold and they've been so cranky trying to cut teeth. I hope they poke through soon.
I'm thankful for...my home. Our house still needs a lot of work and is small but I love it and am very comfortable here. I also love the land it sits on. The land still needs a lot of work but it sure is nice. I love all the trees and especially the creek. I grew up on a farm with Fish Trap creek behind it and my sisters and I had so much fun playing in the creek. I'm excited for my kids to grow up here. We also have the best neighbors anyone could hope for.
I'm listening to...the fan on the wood stove. That's another reason I like this house so much, wood heat is so cozy.
What's for dinner tonight....Chickpea Tacos. I normally make corn tortillas to have with this but we have tortilla chips left from my birthday present from Mom and Dad Johnston. Arlen's parents got me an amazing gift basket from The Green Barn for my birthday and we've all been enjoying it, thanks again Gordon and Linda! Chickpea Tacos are so good if anyone is interested in the recipe just let me know, Theya especially likes these.
What I'm looking forward to...getting chickens and goats. Yesterday Arlen and I spent most of the day mapping out the backyard and measuring how much fencing supplies we'll need. We thought at first we'd get chickens and then later get milking goats, but we're going to dive right in and get both. I'm so excited. Theya's allergic to cow's milk so we've been buying goats milk for a long time. I'm excited to have not only the milk but the ability to make yogurt and cheese!
What's happening this week....putting up fencing, building a chicken coop and a small goat barn.
I am missing....my husband's job. Arlen's now been unemployed for a little over 2 weeks. There are absolutely no jobs in Whatcom county and its a little scary. But we knew this was coming and are preparing for the worst to happen, a depression. That's why we are so motivated to get the chickens and goats, to become more self sufficient in case the food just isn't there in the stores to buy anymore. We're also planting a big garden this year including a patch of wheat so we can grind our own flour.

I like this idea of a weekly blog Kristy! I would love the chickpea taco recipe! I have a black bean taco recipe & my family loves it!
How are you guys doing with Arlen not working? I'm sure that's tough. Ben doesn't have any concrete work, but has been able to pick up a bit of hourly work, which helps at least. I wonder what we'll do if it gets much worse...but we have to trust that God's in control. I know I have to give it back to the Lord daily! Anyway...I know you know there are lots of people out there in the same boat, but sometimes it helps to hear that you're not alone:)
